| Nomenclature and the Codes of Biological Nomenclature |
What is a Nomenclature?
A system of technical and scientific names given to living organisms animals and plants is known as a binomial nomenclature. It is made up of two words L. bi which is double, and G. nomos which represents the name.
According to this system, each plant and animal is given a two-word name, from which the first name shows the genus (plural is genera) from which the organism is from, and the second name is the specific name or the specific epithet referring to the species of the organism.
One interesting rule for scientific names is that all scientific names should be taken and drawn only from Greek or Latin words. And if the words are from another language they should be changed to Latin.
